Reduce your Heating Bills with New uPVC Windows

New year, new you?

We all know the feeling of having spent more than we can afford over Christmas, but, a fresh new year gives you the chance to revaluate your finances and see where you can save some money.

One of the best ways to reduce the amount of energy that you use and make your home more efficient is by and insulating your home with high quality uPVC windows. They’ll reduce the amount of heat that’s escaping through your windows and you’ll find that your heating won’t need to be set as high or be left on as long because the windows are holding the heat inside the property. You’ll have an initial up front cost, but uPVC windows will reduce your household bills and save you money in the long run; money you can spend on really important things like: yourself, a well-earned holiday with the family or those new shoes you’ve been lusting over.

All properties lose heat through their windows, but some windows and doors will lose more than others. Wooden windows often warp and crack, this causes drafts and huge heat losses in the home especially during extreme winter weather conditions. uPVC tends to be the cheapest window material to choose from and the most efficient option for your home. But, don’t feel like you’re missing out on that traditional timber look – woodgrain options are available for modern windows that can completely recreate the look of wooden frames, so you’ll never miss out on that heritage style to suit your property.

How will my windows reduce heat loss, exactly?

It’s simple really:

The inner pane of glass in your window is specifically designed to reduce the amount of heat that is lost through the window while the outer pane allows heat from the sun to penetrate through and into your home meaning you’ll be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer- sounds great, right?

If you choose to install Double glazing, this option will also trap air in between the two panes of glass, creating an insulating barrier that will prevent heat from being lost. The glass is then sealed together, and the air is removed and replaced with Argon gas to provide greater insulation.

How much will I save from installing energy efficient glazing?

It is difficult to say how much you will save in heating costs after an installation as this is often also dependent on multiple factors within the home and your energy own usage.

According to the GGF energy savings calculator replacing old timber double glazing, that has a 12-14 mm spacer, with new A rated double glazing in a semi-detached house that has electric heating could potentially save over £181 a year in reduced heating bills - Just think about what you could spend all that ‘new found’ money on!

Is all double glazing the same?

There are many double-glazing companies to choose from so it can be difficult to know which one to choose for your home renovation. Not all double glazing is the same quality and standard and will very much depend on the company you choose to complete the installation. Like everything else, with on-going technical advancements there have been vast improvements in the double-glazing industry - Even windows that were installed just four years ago may not be as thermally efficient and well insulating as the standard that is installed today.
