Minimum Technical Competencies (MTC) are a set of criteria that installers and surveyors are required to meet when replacing windows and doors in domestic properties.
MTCs form part of the government backed Competent Person Scheme under which tradespeople are given the ability to certify the quality of their work rather than needing to go through a local buildings inspector to ensure quality standards are being maintained. Members of the Competent Persons Scheme need to be able to demonstrate that their work meets regulatory standards and are regularly assessed to ensure that they continue to invest in the appropriate level of training and skills to maintain the correct levels.
Competent Person Schemes are designed to reduce the amount of administrative burden placed on trades and homeowners and allow work to be carried out more efficiently without compromising on health and safety or quality standards.
